Zlatko Kaučič celebrates 40 years of music making with his pupils

Drummer, percussionist, improviser and teacher Zlatko Kaučič, the most known and active Slovenian improviser is celebrating his 40 years of music making. After his formative years that he spent abroad, Kaučič has been crucial with his activities in establishing improvised music scene as we know it today in Slovenia, and he still is a vital influence on younger musicians. During the year Kaučič has celebrated his 40 years of music making with various events, concerts, exhibitions and the release of a 5-cd boxset “Diversity” on NotTwo Records on which he plays with Evan Parker, Agustí Fernádez, Phil Minton, Johannes Bauer, Lotte Anker and Rafal Mazur.

Years ago Kaučič has also started his music school with which he has introduced free improvisation to many youger musicians that are today vital part of the scene. With his pupils he has established various versions of a small ensemble named Kombo with whom he has recorded five albums, collaborated with known fellow countrymen and foreign musicians, has worked with poets and performed home and abroad. They will honour this occasions with a concert on 15 December in Vila Vipolže in Goriška brda.

Various generations of musicians who were or still are part of the Kombo are going to perform: Kombo D (young percussionists Oskar Bolčina, Lovro Bolčina and Aljaž Pekeč), a current international line-up of the ensemble Kombo C (Francesco Ivone, Anton Lorenzutti, Ajk Vremec, Tilen Kravos, Timi Vremec, Tomi Novak and Robi Erzetič), Kombo B (Matjaž Bajc, Jan Jarni, Peter Kastrin, Jure Boršič, Urban Kušar and Žiga Ipavec), and on this occassion some of the members of the very first line-up of Kombo A (Vitja Balžalorsky, Jošt and Vid Drašler, and Gal Furlan) will perform. They will be joined by Kaučič’s frequent collaborator saxophonist Cene Resnik with whom Kaučič plays in trio Watch For Dogs and in Zlatko Kaučič Trijo.
