Žiga Murko publishes live recordings from event series Koordinate zvoka

Trombonist, electronic musician and producer, lately also singer, Žiga Murko is a versatile figure on the contemporary music scene in Slovenia. Originally a jazz trombonist, and member of many jazz groups and formations, Murko has become also sucessfull international producer of instrumental hip-hop with his many lo-fi productions. He performs as soloist and collaborates with various musicians. He was member of audio-visual collective Container Doxa, and he performs regulary in more experimental music enviroments – including free improvised music.

In 2016 he has started an experimental platform Koordinate zvoka / Coordinates of sound, a concert series in which he merges many musical and other artistic milieues: from free improvisation, jazz, free jazz, electronic and electro-acoustic music to pop, hip-hop, sound art, contemporary classical music, video art, performance, poetry and contemporary dance throught free improvisation. In his words, Koordinate zvoka is a “onthly cycle of new combinations of musicians with the desire to generate new sound maps; the concert cycle also draws attention to new technological capabilities such as electronics and the development of digital instrumentation.” The openness to various genres and forms, and the widespread interest shown by diverse audience had clearly profiled the series in our concert environment.

From 2016 onwards Murko organized 26 events at Pritličje. Some of the musicians that have participated on them are Tomaž Grom, Dré Hočevar, Zlatko Kaučič, Irena Z. Tomažin, Boštjan Simon, Jaka Berger, Lester St. Louis, Miha Blažič, Mimo Cogliandro, Marko Lasič, Primož Sukič, Marko Batista, Mauricio Valdes, Cene Resnik, Rok Zalokar, Domen Gnezda, Gašper Livk, Miha Gantar, Miha Ciglar and many others.

Recently he has published some of the recodings from Koordinate zvoka on SoundCloud, amongs them duos with Zlatko Kaučič and Tomaž Grom, trios with Urška Centa and Tomaž Gajšt, and with Rok Zalokar and Žiga Šercer, and two quartets: an international quartet with Mimo Cogliandro, Marko Lasič and Domen Gnezda, and with Miha Gantar, Gašper Livk and Matic Skušek.
