ŽIGA JENKO (1972)
vocalist

He has been in love with music since he was a little boy, with no genre restrictions. Self-taught and exploratory. Or, as Andrej Fon wrote in the trailer for never played (COVID-19) (Ne)forma:

»Žiga Jenko has been known to those who follow what’s going on in our underground scene since the mid-nineties. He was the charismatic frontman of Rhytm Thieves, and later of Crazed Farmers and oOo. If we roughly analyse his musical development, we notice that it is always about marginal and loud music. But that over the years he has been moving away from genre conventions towards music-making that relies on spontaneity rather than structure and moving into the here and now, without staples and taboos. What is left are the reminiscences of punk rock or, to look at it another way, what is left is the essence, the strong raw sonic energy.

His vocal improvisation – in which he is, for the moment, blissful among women – shows him in an even subtler light. At once playful and deadly serious, sensual and defiant. The label of the only representative of the male quota in the Slovenian pool of improvised vocalising is actually conditional, because his use of the voice – rightly and appropriately – transcends gender preconceptions and successfully subverts the listener’s idea of male singing.«
