Confine Aperto, a long-lasting concert series organized by Zavod Sploh is soon back with four further events for the Autumn 2018 season.
On 27 September, Thursday at ŠKUC Gallery Confine Aperto is presenting two remarkable duos working exclusively with human voice and double bass: Ignite, the wife-husband duo of Australian vocal artist Casey Moir and Swedish double bassist Johan Moir is presenting their new material, while a new Slovenian duo of vocalist Žiga Jenko and double bassist Tomaž Grom is finally making its long-awaited public debut in Ljubljana.
Zavod Sploh’s Confine Aperto, KUD Mreža’s FriForma and Miha Zadnikar’s Defonija are joining forces to present an all-female double bill on 14 October, Sunday at the main hall of Španski borci. Both the trio of French vocalist-clarinettist Isabelle Duthoit, Mexican Paetzold recorder player Angélica Castelló and French pianist Sophie Agnel; plus the duo Nabelóse with Greek french horn player Elena Kakaliagou and Austrian pianist Ingrid Schmoliner are making their first appearance in Slovenia.
On 24 October, Wednesday at ŠKUC Gallery, Confine Aperto is staging Barcelona-based trio Phicus with Ferran Fages on electric guitar, Àlex Reviriego on double bass and Vasco Trilla on drums; and a rather special international project that started at last year’s Improcon – Congress Of Free Improvised Music, Arts & Thoughts: a highly experimental quartet working with deconstructing hip-hop music, named Messy with Slovenian and Italian vocalists Ina Puntar and Erika Sofia Sollo, Hungarian electronic musician Bálint Bolcsó and renowned Swedish sound artist Henrik Olsson on percussion, amplified objects and electronics.
Zavod Sploh’s last Confine Aperto for this year on 2 November, Friday again at ŠKUC Gallery is presenting the outstanding duo of British saxophonist John Butcher and Norwegian drummer Ståle Liavik Solberg, with an opening set by Slovenian-Italian trio Odbo Oqpo with Vid Drašler on drums, Alberto Novello on modular synth and Paolo Pascolo on flutes and saxophones.
Confine Aperto represents an open set of musical expressions that confront various practices through an improvisational and experimental character. The actuality and originality of handling music matter includes the research of understanding sounds, issues linked to music communication and opening technological potentials. Risky and often unverified combinations guarantee liveliness, coincidences, unpredictability and openness. The concert series started in 2005; until 2017 it had been curated by Tomaž Grom, since 2018 it is curated by László Juhász.
