multi-instrumentalist, performer, pedagogue

A bold and bracing individual voice – an authentic and witty multi- and poly-instrumentalist, musical luddite, an excellent performer (also in the theatre context), pedagogue and reliable collaborator, he has been forged on all kinds of stages, in diverse musical combinations, even on the street. There he trained mainly on the bagpipes. Pieces of upbeat music are woven into a peculiar everyday surrealism, through which Fon’s alter ego named Olfamož disturbs and dissects, criticizes and ironizes contemporary society and contemporary life, institutions, technology, religion, discipline and blind hedonism. Olfamoz is an improviser, wind player (clarinet; tenor saxophone; bagpipes; various flutes), noise-rock / R.I.O. / avant-rock guitarist, singer-songwriter, connoisseur of world music, inventor and maker of musical instruments and sound devices, member of several bands, cellist and one tenth of the band Olfamoštvo; strumming and agilely cutting and twirling through the cut-up genres of songwriting, noisy rock, afro beat, broken disco, jazz, especially that of freer strings and directions, improvisation, interested in subtle sonorities, voice storytelling and strange word-sound mischief. But the road to becoming Olfamož and Olfamoštvo has been a long and winding one.

Andrej Fon was born in 1980 in Sežana. He graduated from the High School of Catering and Tourism in Izola, after which he enrolled at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana, where he studied art history, and later sociology of culture and philosophy. He did not complete his studies. He graduated from a lower music school (main subject clarinet) and was a member of the Kras brass band (both in Sežana) until 1994.
