JOŠT DRAŠLER (1981)
a double bassist, improviser, curator and pedagogue

As one of the most active improvisers on the music scene he is very much involved in contemporary music practices focused on free improvisation. Risk-taking music and its natural process that generates unpredictable sonic textures fascinates him.
He organizes workshops and concerts of free improvised music (Rojišče, Raziskava, refleksija, BCMF, Mariboring, 4 States Sessions, Improcon etc.), and participates as well. He performs with very various musicians from different genres. Wider music perception allows him to explore among different genres – from free jazz, free improvised music to avant rock and flamenco.

WE POINT OUT:

Jošt Drašler – The Balloon Catcher (Zavod Sploh, 2018)

”This is demonstrated in the most beautiful manner on the debut solo album The Balloon Catcher. With nine recordings he reveals a wide spectrum of double bass instrument, extreme technical expertise and enriched knowledge in free improvised music. It took a quite while to record this album but solistic improvisation is one of the most demanding disciplines, experts say – at least when musicians performs it so exquisitively as Drašler does on his solo album. For music to be heard as it is on this solo record – firstly, he had to perform numerous concerts and expand music vocabulary with large number of collaborations with musicians, and finally he accomplished self-actualization.” (Mladina, Goran Kompoš)
