TILEN LEBAR (1993)
saxophonist, composer

Born in Murska Sobota, he currently lives in The Hague in the Netherlands. After finishing his studies at Conservatory for music and ballet in Maribor, he has continued and successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree in musical arts with principal study in saxophone class under Matjaz Drevensek at the Academy of Music, University in Ljubljana and continued his Master’s Instrumental pedagogical studies in Saxophone under Miha Rogina and Matjaz Drevensek at the same University. Since 2016, he was educating himself in the composition class of Uros Rojko at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana. In 2021 he completed his master’s degree in Composition studies at Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (Netherlands)in the classes of Peter Adriaansz, Cornelis de Bondt and Guus Janssen. Moreover, he continued his saxophone studies in class of Raaf Hekkema and Lars Niederstrasser.

He is a representative of a younger generation of Slovenian musicians and he is actively enrolled in the field of; chamber compositional works, premieres of new works of younger composers, in the field of improvised music scene in Slovenia and Austria, and in the field of interdisciplinary and sound arts. He regulary cooperates with Zavod Sploh, KUD Mreza, Ensemble Szene Istrumental, CONA | institute for contemporary arts processing and Inexhaustible Editions.

His sound world reveals a great knowledge of individual instrumental extended techniques as well as contemplated colours, detailed structures in sound tinctures, all of those expressing in his personal view in introverted musical approach. His works were performed in Slovenia, Estonia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia and The Netherlands. His collaborations included ensemble Asamisimasa from Oslo, ensemble Stere (Slovenia), ensemble Oerknal (The Netherlands), Slagwerk Den Haag, Experimental studio of SWR Freiburg and Dutch National Opera & Ballet, among others. He was a recipient of a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture Republic of Slovenia for his postgraduate studies at Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Since 2019 he is an active member of Society of Slovene Composers (DSS).
